Dr. Preston Helmly, MD
Board-Certified Psychiatrist
Dr. Preston Helmly is a board-certified psychiatrist providing evidence-guided, patient-centered care for adults in Johnson City, Tennessee, and surrounding communities. His approach emphasizes careful evaluation, clinical rigor, and compassionate treatment.
He completed his psychiatry residency at
East Tennessee State University’s Quillen College of Medicine, where he served as Chief Resident and earned multiple recognitions for excellence in teaching and clinical knowledge.
Dr. Helmly previously worked as an attending psychiatrist at
Woodridge Psychiatric Hospital, caring for adults with complex psychiatric and co-occurring substance use disorders. He has extensive experience in acute inpatient settings and currently serves veterans at the
Mountain Home VA Medical Center.
In addition to clinical care, Dr. Helmly is actively involved in medical education and continues to teach psychiatric residents and medical students.
Dr. Helmly is a member of the
American Psychiatric Association,
Tennessee Psychiatric Association, and the
American Society of Addiction Medicine. He holds an active Tennessee medical license and is board-certified in Psychiatry. He has clinical interests in mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma-related conditions, and psychopharmacologic care.
Dr. Carrie Robey, MD
Board-Certified Psychiatrist
Dr. Carrie Robey is a board-certified psychiatrist with extensive experience in adult inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care. She is known for her calm, attentive approach and her commitment to compassionate, patient-centered treatment.
Dr. Robey earned her Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the James H. Quillen College of Medicine in Johnson City, Tennessee. She and her family fell in love with this beautiful region, and she thus found herself remaining in the area to complete her psychiatry residency (also at Quillen COM). During her specialty training, she served as chief resident and was honored with the Louis A. Cancellaro award for excellence in leadership and patient care.
Her clinical career includes serving as an inpatient attending psychiatrist at Woodridge Psychiatric Hospital, where she led multidisciplinary treatment teams and provided care for adults with a wide range of psychiatric conditions. She currently practices with ETSU Physicians & Associates in Johnson City.
Dr. Robey has been consistently recognized for excellence in teaching and humanistic care. She has received multiple teaching awards from medical students and colleagues, including honors for compassion, professionalism, and excellence in clinical instruction. She has also presented at national psychiatric meetings and contributed to quality improvement initiatives focused on trauma-informed care.
Her clinical interests include mood disorders, trauma-related conditions, psychiatric education, and collaborative treatment planning that respects each patient’s lived experience.
